Plas Newydd,

Historic House and Gardens with Tea Rooms

Hill Street

 Llangollen

LL20 8AW

Plas Newydd is celebrated for being the home of the famous Ladies of Llangollen, Eleanor Butler & Sarah Ponsonby who lived here from 1780 to 1831.  They caused a scandal when they eloped from Ireland, seeking a life of retirement.

Visit their extraordinary gothicised gothicised home, full of fascinating history which they turned from a simple farmhouse into a unique home full of oak carvings & stained glass.  Hear about the stream of famous visitors they received and look through their diaries  and journals.  Stroll through the gardens including lawns, stone circle, dell with stream,  parterre and  topiary.  Try some delicious homemade soups, light lunches and cakes in the tearooms.

Visit an exhibition in Y Caban, the ladies old potting shed, now also an education and meeting room.

Just 5 mins walk from Llangollen town centre.
